Free Activity: Honoring Joseph Bologne for Black History Month
In celebration of Black History Month we offer this free activity on French composer, violinist, and conductor Joseph Bologne. In addition to being an accomplished performer and musician, Bologne was also a chevalier (knight) in service to King Louis XIV.
Nine Noteworthy: Black Composers
This lesson comes from Nine Noteworthy: Black Composers by Krista Hart, a resource that teaches about nine important black composers and their impacts on music. Each composer is introduced with a quick-read Bio, brief Composer Connections facts, and a Listening Lab identifying important works and key elements to discover in each musical selection. Students may check what they learned on the Review page, and then connect with the composer’s life and times through Reflection Questions and a culminating Writing Prompt.
