Congratulations to the 2018 Best Communities for Music Education
We would like to congratulate the 583 Districts and 135 schools recognized as Best Communities for Music Education! Presented by The NAMM Foundation , the Best Communities for Music Education (BCME) and its counterpart, the SupportMusic Merit Award (SMMA), recognizes districts and schools that demonstrate an exceptionally high commitment and consistent access to music education.
What is BCME’s mission?
The Best Communities for Music Education (BCME) is a signature program of The NAMM Foundation that recognizes and celebrates school districts and schools for their support and commitment to music education and efforts to assure access to music for all students as part of a well-rounded education. As a national recognition program, it gives local music education teachers, leaders, and advocates a tool to increase visibility and support for their music programs.
What was the inspiration behind founding this initiative?
Now in its 19 th year, the awards program recognizes the outstanding efforts of teachers, administrators, parents, students and community leaders who have made music education part of the curriculum. Designations are given to districts and schools that demonstrate an exceptionally high commitment and consistent access to music education. BCME was established to recognize and celebrate schools, administrators, teachers, board members, parents, and students for their support of music education and their efforts to assure access to all students as part of a well-rounded education.
How can music educators benefit from supporting BCME?
The BCME Award for school districts and the SMMA Award for schools offer opportunities to increase awareness, shine the spotlight on the community, and give support for music programs.
How can teachers, schools, and communities get involved?
Teachers, school administrators, etc., can get involved by submitting an application to be considered as a BCME or SMMA awardee. The application period is October through January. Designees are announced in the spring.
