8 Virtual Choirs We Love (And Why)
Virtual choirs—what was once a unique experience has become an everyday reality for many of us. Yes, we long for the day when we can all sing together in the same room again, but in the meantime, let’s keep the music going! Virtual choirs have a lot to offer both singers and directors, forcing us to rehearse and perform in new ways. If you are looking for some inspiration for your next (or first) virtual choir, check out these videos!
1. Over the Rainbow
Chino Hills High School
This was the video that introduced virtual choirs to most of the US this year. Early in the shutdown the Chino Hills High School choir went viral when their virtual choir was featured on the Today Show, PBS News Hour, and many other outlets.
2. Because All Men Are Brothers
North Carolina Master Chorale
The audio is incredible to the ears, and the video editing keeps your eyes engaged as well!
3. By the Waters
Halifax Young Singers
This choir not only sounds great, but they also show us their personality with a fun photo montage in the middle. We also love that they included the composers, the accompanist, and the conductor in the video.
4. For Just a Little While
Palatine High School
We love the color coordinated outfits that add extra school spirit in this end-of-year virtual performance!
5. Homeward Bound
Rosemead Chamber Choir, A Capella Choir, and Aeolian Choir
This group included casual snapshots of the choir members mixed in with the standard videos of the singers’ recordings.
6. Count on Me
Virtual Indonesia Youth Choir
Connecting with your audience might seem challenging through a computer screen but this youth choir did it with ease! Great facial expressions that convey their enthusiasm for the music throughout.
7. Hamilton Highlights
SFHS Choraliers
They couldn't be together "in the room where it happens," but this choir still manages to deliver an energetic performance of this Hamilton medley.
8. Hero
The Cast of Schitt’s Creek
A heartfelt tribute to graduates from the cast of Schitts’s Creek and Mariah Carey. This gorgeous contemporary a cappella arrangement is now available from Alfred Music!
