30 Days of Thankfulness: Free Gratitude Journaling Activity

As we approach this incredibly unique holiday season, it is our hope that music teachers and students not only continue to experience the joy of making music, but can also find the joy in the little things every day. Starting on Monday, November 2nd, use this free 30 Days of Thankfulness kit below with your students throughout the rest of the month to promote journaling and reflection as self-care strategies to deliberately encourage positivity and gratitude.

Background

Gratitude is expressing appreciation for what you have right now. Even though you’re living through some of the most challenging and trying times you’ve ever experienced, you still have gratitude for the people in your life and gratitude for all good things that are available to you at this moment.

Being grateful isn't an idea you stick on a Post-It note for a quick shot of feel-good. It takes time. It takes thought. It takes reflection.

Gratitude can transform you. It can help pull you from the negativity that’s taking the momentum out of life and give you a renewed sense of purpose and joy.

Turning it into a daily habit is the easiest way to practice gratitude, specifically by committing to gratitude journaling.

8 Benefits to Keeping a Gratitude Journal:

  1. Gratitude improves mental health.
  2. Gratitude improves physical health.
  3. Gratitude increases happiness.
  4. Gratitude helps you sleep better.
  5. Gratitude improves relationships and opens the door to more.
  6. Gratitude increases resilience and mental strength.
  7. Gratitude enhances empathy and reduces aggression.
  8. Gratitude improves self-esteem.

Here's How it Works:

  • Mondays : Starting on Monday, November 2, begin each week with one of the following journal prompts encouraging students to reflect on various topics as they relate to gratitude. (Click each image or the PDF links below to access and save each prompt.)
  • Fridays : End each week with a Gratitude Fill in the Blank to encourage deliberate focus on positive aspects of that week. Share the image on screen and have students submit their responses in the chat, or post as an assignment in your class management platform!

Share your gratitude responses on social media using the hashtag #GiveGratitude to encourage your greater network to join in!
