Denzel Washington

Composer Denzel Washington earned his M.M. in Music Composition from the University of Northern Iowa and his B.A. in Music from Mercer University and holds memberships in ASCAP and SCI. Past teachers include Jonathan Schwabe and Christopher Schmitz. His musical influences include Charles Ives, Edward Elgar, and Igor Stravinsky. In 2019, Washington began his composition business, DLWMuse. He produced two albums under DLWMuse, Promises Fulfilled (2020), and Blessings & Promises (2019). In 2019, Washington placed first in the inaugural UNI Composition Contest and had his piece, American Pastorale, premiered by the Northern Iowa Youth Orchestra. His Utopy premiered at the North American Saxophone Alliance 2018 Biennial Conference. Washington also placed first in the Atlanta Mu Phi Epsilon Alumni Chapter Scholarship Competition in 2015.
