SINFONIA FOR WINDS (SINFONIA FÜR BLÄSER) in G minor, A 509 was written by Gaetano Donizetti (1798-1848) in April of 1817, when the composer was 19-20 years old. Donizetti's catalog includes more than a dozen works under the title "Sinfonia," with this particular early one composed in sonata form for flute, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 horns, and 2 bassoons already displaying the light, entertaining style that would become his trademark.
