One moment…
Description
Written quickly by Leoš Janácek between October 13 and 28 in 1923, the STRING QUARTET No. 1 is also referred to as "The Kreutzer Sonata," Janácek having taken inspiration from the Leo Tolstoy novella of the same name. Tolstoy's story was itself inspired by Beethoven's VIOLIN SONATA No. 9, which is known as the "Kreutzer" due to its dedicatee, Rodolphe Kreutzer. Despite having been requested by the Bohemian Quartet, the work was actually premiered by the Czech Quartet on October 17, 1924, at a concert at the Mozarteum in Prague presented by the Spolek pro moderní hudbu (Contemporary Music Society). This reprint edition has been revised by violist, and member of the Smetana Quartet, Milan Škampa. Parts only.
