Sing, America! was commissioned by the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) in 1975. Dedicated to the youth of America, the work was first performed by the Pennsylvania All-State Chorus and Orchestra on the occasion of the PMEA Bicentennial Convention in Hershey, PA in 1976. The text of the work speaks of patriotism in both traditional and contemporary settings.
