Quartet Concerto for SATB Saxophone Quartet and Wind Ensemble: Wind Ensemble, Solo Woodwind(s) with Ensemble, Score and Parts

Walter S. Hartley, whose works for saxophone and low brass significantly expanded the repertoire available for those instruments, wrote the QUARTET CONCERTO for SATB saxophones in 1992 for a commission by the Atlanta Saxophone Quartet for a premiere with the DeKalb Symphony Orchestra. In four movements, the soli players are treated as a composite unit pitted againt the orchestra, somewhat as in the Baroque concerto grosso. The harmonic style is freely tonal.
