Description
Léo Delibes' (1836-1891) COPPÉLIA (1870) is a comic ballet that tells the story of a sinister doctor who has made a beautiful, life-sized dancing doll (the title character) and the young man who becomes infatuated with the doll, setting aside his heart's true desire, his fiancé. One of Delibes' ballets that helped to redefine the importance of music in the art form, COPPÉLIA remains a standard part of the ballet repertoire. In the creation of this reduced orchestration by William McDermott, no score was produced. It is suggested that those wishing to perform this reduction conduct from William McDermott's full orchestration edition (A139601). Instrumentation: 2(2nd d.Picc).2(2nd d.EH).2.2: 2.2.1.0: Timp.Perc(2): Hp. Str (4.4.3.3.3 in set).
