Description
Written with the sense of humor characteristic of Paul Hindemith's (1895-1963) works from the 1920's, KAMMERMUSIK No. 1, Op. 24, No. 1 (1922) is a busy four-movement composition, written with a tonal center that pushes at its own boundaries. It premiered on July 31, 1922, at the Internationale Kammermusiktage Donaueschingen, Hermann Scherchen, conducting. This Donaueschingen Chamber Music Festival also gave the fourth movement the subtitle "1921" as the festival, in its second year, had first began in 1921. Movements: 1. Sehr schnell und wild (very fast and wild); 2. Mäßig schnell Halbe (moderately fast half-notes); 3. Quartett: Sehr langsam und mit Ausdruck (quartet: very slow and with expression); 4. Finale 1921: Lebhaft (lively). Instrumentation: 1dPicc.0.1.1: 0.1.0.0: Perc(2): Pno: Vn(2).Va.Vc.CB: Solo Accordion in set: (set as scored).
