Written in 1795, Ludwig van Beethoven’s (1770-1827) Soll ein Schuh nicht drücken! for soprano and ensemble is a setting of the libretto from Austrian composer Ignaz Umlauf’s 1778 singspeil Die schöne Schusterin. This work is part of a two-movement set of arias written by Beethoven to be inserted into the 1795 revival of Umlauf's work.
