Description
TERPSICORE, HWV 8b is a French-style opera-ballet, composed by George Frideric Handel (1685-1759) as a prologue to the revised 1734 version of his opera IL PASTOR FIDO (HWV 8c). Terpsicore, the Greek muse of dance and choral song, is summoned by Apollo to give a demonstration of her art. It premiered at Covent Garden in London on November 9, 1734, opening his first season of productions at the new theatre. A suite of music from the ballet, edited by Hermann Muller, is presented in this Kalmus edition. Instrumentation: 0.2.0.1(opt.): 0.0.0.0: Str (2.2.3.1.1 in set) [hpchd].
