Description
TERPSICORE, HWV 8b is a French-style opera-ballet, composed by George Frideric Handel (1685-1759) as a prologue to the revised 1734 version of his opera IL PASTOR FIDO (HWV 8c). Terpsicore, the Greek muse of dance and choral song, is summoned by Apollo to give a demonstration of her art. It premiered at Covent Garden in London on November 9, 1734, opening his first season of productions at the new theatre.
