Description
Los Caballos de Andalucia (The Horses of Andalusia) by R. Anne Svendsen is a rhythmic Spanish-flavored piece in 3/4 time that would suit middle school level players. The key is E minor with the notation range remaining in the first position for all instruments. The viola part doubles the second violin part to add a solid mid-support for the upper melody and a balanced counter melody line when required. Throughout the piece, players are encouraged to create bold sound colors using full bows and exaggerated dynamics, contrasting with accents and crisp rhythms bowing in outer sections. The piano part drives the work rhythmically and fills in harmonically to enhance the overall performance. This work would make a lively finale for a concert program. (2:00)
