Description
SERENADE No. 12 in C minor, K. 388/K. 384a, also sometime called NACHTMUSIK or NACHT MUSIQUE, was composed originally by W.A. Mozart (1756-1791) between 1782 and 1783. Serenades at the time were generally considered light music for relaxed entertainment, often to be performed outdoors by an ensemble of wind instruments, not taken seriously in concert settings and rarely set in a minor key. Mozart, however, composed three wind serenades after moving to Vienna in 1781, and all are far more serious works than customary for the genre, including this one in C minor written for wind octet (0.2.2.2: 2.0.0.0). This performance edition has been completed by Frederick Fennell, who conducted a performance of his edition made by the Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra, recorded on their album SERENADES (KOCD-3567).
