LOS ANGELES, CA  -  Monday, June 10, 2013
Alfred Music expands its Sound Innovations series—the first-ever customizable band and string method to hit the music education market—with the fourth and final book for string orchestra. Written by renowned string educators Bob Phillips and Kirk Moss, Sound Development for Advanced String Orchestra focuses on sound and ensemble development for advanced ensembles.

Sound Innovations: Sound Development for Advanced String Orchestra is the perfect book to follow Sound Development for Intermediate String Orchestra or for any advanced string ensemble or individual student. It serves as a reference book for scales and arpeggios and provides a valuable resource for state and festival auditions while helping students further refine the proper use of the bow, bow strokes, and shifting. The levels can be used in the order that is best for your students, as individual warm-ups, or as structured units.

With this method, technical development is presented in a clear, concise manner, with the components of technique broken into four levels. These components include sound tone, sound bowings, sound shifting, and sound scales and arpeggios. This book further develops the innovative, flexible, and easy-to-teach format for scales, including a pedagogically-sound approach to introducing the third octave. In addition to this book, supplemental Master Class video clips are available online to demonstrate and further reinforce ideas presented throughout this book.

Bob Phillips, composer, string pedagogue, clinician, and conductor, is renowned both as an educator and an innovator in string education. As Alfred Music’s Director of String Publications and President of the American String Teachers Association, Phillips has devoted his life to creating and presenting music, workshops, and materials for string teachers and students. With over twenty-eight years as a public school educator, as well as twenty years as a teacher trainer, Bob brings a wealth of knowledge to his compositions and methods. Phillips graduated from the University of Michigan with both Bachelor and Master Degrees in Music Education. He has been elected “Teacher of the Year” nine times by professional associations and has been invited to present clinics in over 48 states and many foreign countries, as well as most national conferences. <p>

Moss has appeared as a guest conductor, clinician, or adjudicator in more than thirty states. The University of Florida School of Music awarded him an Alumni Outstanding Achievement Award.
