Once: Sheet Music from the Broadway Musical Songbook Released by Alfred Music Publishing

LOS ANGELES, CA  -  Friday, November 02, 2012
Arranged for piano and voice with optional guitar, Once: Sheet Music from the Broadway Musical is the official songbook to the Tony® award-winning Broadway rendition of the celebrated film Once. Twelve standouts from Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová’s (The Swell Season) soaring score are captured in all-new arrangements that are based directly on the show’s Original Broadway Cast Recording.

Once: Sheet Music from the Broadway Musical allows musicians to apply their own talent to the songs of this highly-acclaimed musical, such as the Academy® award-winning "Falling Slowly" (“Best Original Song”), “Leave,” “Say It to Me Now,” “When Your Mind’s Made Up,” “Gold,” and more. “Once uses song and dance in a way I've never experienced in an American musical,” said Ben Brantley of The New York Times. “The instruments swell into a collection of distinctive voices melded into a single, universal feeling.” In addition to its rave reviews, the Broadway production has garnered eight Tony awards, including “Best Musical,” “Best Book of a Musical,” and “Best Orchestrations.”

The Swell Season consists of Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová, a songwriting twosome known for their beautiful vocal harmonies and folk-rock music. They released a self-titled debut in 2006, and later appeared as working-class immigrants in the popular Irish movie Once. The film was presented at the Sundance Film Festival in 2007, launching "Falling Slowly" as its hit single. Adapted to a Broadway musical earlier this year, Once tells the story of an Irish musician and a Czech immigrant drawn together by their shared love of music.

As part of Alfred’s ongoing commitment to improving the environment, this book is printed on 100% recycled paper.

Once: Sheet Music from the Broadway Musical (00-39315) is now available for $16.99 at music retail stores and at alfred.com.
