Alfred Music Publishing, world leader in educational print music publishing since 1922, releases Wynn-Anne Rossi’s Creative Composition Toolbox, Books 4 – 6
, the latest series additions to the step-by-step guide that introduces students to the art of original composition.
The purpose of the Creative Composition Toolbox series is to open the world of self-expression to every piano student. The books are compatible with any piano method and reinforce essential theory skills throughout. Materials can be taught in private and group lessons, and is well-suited for piano camps. Each book in the series features 10 composition tools in a two-page format: On the first page, a composition tool is introduced with a performance piece that utilizes the tool; on the second page, an original composition is assigned based on the composition tool.
Book 4, early-intermediate level, features the following composition tools: Theme and variations form, program music, compound meter, mixed meter, introduction, coda, chromatic and whole tone scales, modes, broken chords, and arpeggios.
Book 5, intermediate level, features the following composition tools: Triplets, sixteenth notes, retrograde, inversion, diminution, augmentation, 7th chords, extended chord structures, elements of jazz, and 12-bar blues.
Book 6, late-intermediate level, features the following composition tools: Chord symbols, lead sheets, ostinato, parallel and contrary motion, altered chords, quartal and quintal harmony, secondary dominants, modulation, canon, and counterpoint.
