Alfred Music Publishing, the world leader in educational print music publishing since 1922 and home to the world’s largest percussion print music catalog, offers brand new jazz play-along and resource books for jazz musicians of all levels: Alfred Jazz Play-Along Series, Vol. 4: The Music of Gordon Goodwin, Jazz Real Book: Essential Jazz Standards, C Edition, and Alfred Jazz Easy Play-Along Series, Vol. 3: Latin.

For medium-advanced jazz musicians and ensembles, The Music of Gordon Goodwin includes arrangements of Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band favorites such as “That’s How We Roll,” “Count Bubba’s Revenge,” “Maynard & Waynard,” “The Jazz Police,” and many more. Each song includes jazz choruses for plenty of soloing opportunities, as well as written-out sample jazz solos for musicians to listen to, play, and practice. Helpful improvisation tips by Gordon Goodwin are also included for each tune. The MP3 CD has two tracks for each arrangement—demo and play-along track. The demo track, featuring Gordon Goodwin and players from the Big Phat Band, is a learning tool for the melodic concept, overall jazz style, and the sample jazz solo. The play-along track allows a soloist or group to learn and perform with the rhythm section. The MP3 CD also features tempo changing software allowing you to slow down or speed up the tempo (in your computer). There are two Gordon Goodwin books in the Alfred Jazz Play-Along Series: A book that includes parts for C, B-flat, E-flat and bass clef instruments, and a matching rhythm section book that has parts for piano, bass, and drums to create small group arrangements.

Jazz Real Book: Essential Jazz Standards, C Edition was created for individuals, teachers, and instrumental/vocal groups, and ideal for jazz gigs, jam sessions, club dates, or study and analysis. As a professional-quality and legal resource, the Jazz Real Book: Essential Jazz Standards is an invaluable collection for working musicians and students of jazz music. Titles include memorable tunes such as “Anthropology,” “Blue Train,” “Giant Steps,” “Impressions,” “Lester Leaps In,” “Love for Sale,” “Scrapple from the Apple,” “Take Five,” “West Coast Blues,” and many more jazz staples. Jazz Real Book: Essential Jazz Standards, C Edition are arranged in a clear and easy-to-read format with accurate chord symbols and song verses, along with rehearsal letters to assist with understanding the form and musical phrases of every song. Suggested substitute chord progressions are also provided and shown above the main chord symbols. When available, suggested introductions and optional endings are offered.

Alfred Jazz Easy Play-Along Series, Vol. 3: Latin is the newest addition to the Alfred Easy Jazz Play-Along Series, with titles that include “Gentle Rain,” “Manha de Carnaval,” “Night and Day,” “Recorda me,” “Softly, as in a Morning Sunrise,” and many more. Each volume in the series has parts for C, B-flat, E-flat, and bass clef instruments and includes a sample jazz solo written out as an invaluable asset that makes learning how to improvise easier. The included MP3 CD has a demo and play-along track for each tune. The demo track, featuring a pro rhythm section and horn player, is a learning tool for the melodic concept, overall jazz style and the sample jazz solo. The play-along track allows a soloist or group to learn and perform with the rhythm section. Specific improvisation tips and suggestions are also included. The matching book for rhythm section featuring piano, bass and drum parts is also available, sold separately.
