Alfred Music Publishing, the official print music publisher of thousands of popular artists, songwriters, and composers, is now distributing Les Paul: Live in New York
, a DVD tribute to the award-winning and legendary guitarist, songwriter, and inventor who revolutionized the sonic and musical palettes of American popular song, from John Paulson Productions.
Perfect for guitarists, first-time listeners, or long-time aficionados, the Les Paul: Live in New York Les Paul: Live in New York DVD is a hallmark of Les Paul’s final performances. The special collector’s edition DVD features jam sessions from Les Paul and friends, which began on his 90th birthday, and captured every Monday night at New York's historic Iridium Jazz Club for the next four years until Paul’s passing in 2009. Performances of tunes on the DVD include “How High the Moon,” “Limehouse Blues,” “Route 66,” “Sleepwalk,” “Unchain My Heart,” “Cherokee,” “Nature Boy,” and many more. Various signature performances with highly acclaimed artists such as Steve Miller, Keith Richards, Jose Feliciano, Bonnie Raitt, Tony Bennett, and others performing with Les Paul are also included.
Les Paul is perhaps best-known for his pioneering design work on the solid body electric guitar, non-distorting guitar pickups, and various recording techniques such as multi-tracking and overdubbing. Trademark elements of his sound—heavy reverb, crispy echo, trebly and twangy tone, bends and glissando—have without a doubt shaped the sounds of our world today. He maintained a highly successful career spanning several decades, starting in the ’30s when he was a swing-era jazzman. During the 1950s and ’60s, Les Paul became a pop star, recording solo and with his wife Mary Ford, creating million-selling hits. He earned many awards over the years, including a Grammy® Award in 1977 for Chester and Lester, a duet he did with Chet Atkins, and two more in 2006 for the songs “Caravan” and “69 Freedom Special” from the album American Made World Played. Les Paul was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 and the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2005.
