Morty Manus, President of Alfred Music Publishing, Receives 2011 MPA Lifetime Achievement Award

Morty Manus, President of Alfred Music Publishing, has been honored by the Music Publishers Association of the United States with the “2011 Lifetime Achievement Award” for his decades of devotion and continued service to educators, teachers, musicians, and the music community. Morty was present to accept his award in person at the MPA Annual Meeting on June 3, 2011 at the Harvard Club of New York City. His wife and Alfred Executive Producer, Iris Manus, along with their son and Alfred CEO, Ron Manus, both accompanied Morty to receive this prestigious honor.

Described as a man with extraordinary vision, Morty grew Alfred Music Publishing from a small US importer of music for silent films with his father Sam Manus, to the world leader in educational print music publishing. The MPA “Lifetime Achievement Award” honors the industrious leadership of Manus and his significant contributions to the music industry. Through the publication of unique and world renowned educational print music resources, Alfred continues to make a significant impact on how millions around the world learn, teach, and play music with such method series titles as Alfred’s Basic Piano Library, Alfred's Basic Adult Piano Course, Alfred’s Basic Guitar Method, Premier Piano Course, Music for Little Mozarts, Sound Innovations for Concert Band and String Orchestra, and many more.

Upon receiving the award announcement, Morty commented, “What an honor to be recognized by the MPA, but I’m not done yet! I simply love what I do—helping others experience the joy of making music is a wonderful thing.” Morty has personally authored or co-authored more than 425 publications with total copies sold recently cresting 50 million. To date, Alfred’s catalog includes over 90,000 active educational, reference, pop, and performance titles for teachers, students, professionals, and hobbyists spanning every musical instrument, style, and difficulty level.
