Alfred Music Publishing, the world leader in educational print music publishing since 1922, announces the release of Gershwin for Students, Books 1 – 3 piano collections, the graded arrangements of George & Ira Gershwin’s best loved songs, arranged by Carol Matz.

Gershwin for Students, Books 1 – 3 piano collections each feature seven widely popular Gershwin tunes that are arranged at the late elementary to intermediate level. Perfect for the early learner and hobbyist alike, key signatures are limited to no more than one sharp or flat, with songs appearing in approximate order of difficulty. Every arrangement is carefully graded for students, while still retaining the intent and style of the original Gershwin compositions.

American composer George Gershwin (1898 – 1937) and his brother, lyricist Ira Gershwin (1896 – 1983), created some of the most imaginative and enduring American music. George Gershwin fused elements of jazz and traditional symphonic sounds in his famous compositions “Rhapsody in Blues,” “Concerto in F,” “An American in Paris,” as well as the folk opera “Porgy and Bess.” In addition, the two brothers collaborated in writing numerous popular songs that have been recorded over the years by countless singers and jazz instrumentalists.

Arrangements in Book 1, late elementary level include: But Not for Me * A Foggy Day (In London Town) * Rhapsody in Blue (Selected Themes) * ’S Wonderful * Summertime * Swanee * Three-Quarter Blues.

Arrangements in Book 2, early intermediate level include: I Got Rhythm * Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off * The Man I Love * Nice Work If You Can Get It * Rhapsody in Blue (Selected Themes) * Someone to Watch Over Me * Summertime.
