Alfred Music Publishing Distributes Neil Peart: Fire on Ice DVD by Drum Channel

LOS ANGELES, CA  -  Tuesday, March 01, 2011

Alfred Music Publishing, home to the world’s largest percussion print music catalog, is now distributing Neil Peart: Fire on Ice, a new DVD about Neil Peart’s rendition and recording of the most iconic theme in sports history, by Drum Channel.

Neil Peart: Fire on Ice is a behind-the-scenes video narrative on the concept, development, and recording of Neil Peart’s rendition of “The Hockey Theme.” Hosted by Canadian-born and Rush drummer/lyricist, Neil Peart, this DVD guides the viewer through the process of arranging and recording this famous piece with in-depth commentary on this labor of love.

Revered as Canada’s second national anthem, “The Hockey Theme” was written by Dolores Claman in 1968 and still remains as the sport’s trademark tune. Peart’s rendition, arranged by music educator and former Buddy Rich keyboardist Matt Harris, was commissioned by TSN (The Sport Network) and serves as the opening song for all NHL broadcasts on the Canadian satellite channel.

“When we started to search for finding iconic Canadians to give us their rendition of ‘The Hockey Theme,’ Neil jumped right to the front of the list without question,” recalled TSN’s Senior Vice President of Production Mark Milliere. Neil Peart said, “Without exaggeration, this is one of the greatest experiences of my life.”

The DVD includes a Making of “The Hockey Theme” journal written by Peart with color photos that chronicles this eventful journey. Bonus material includes the production of the hockey team-logo-adorned drum set, “The Hockey Theme” music video and a surprise appearance of the Stanley Cup.

Neil Peart: Fire on Ice DVD (93-DV10014901) is now available for $24.95 at music retail stores and at alfred.com/drums.
