Alfred Music Publishing was the proud recipient of a “Best In Show” award at the 2011 Winter NAMM show last week, presented by Music Inc. magazine. The award was given in honor of Alfred’s extensive Led Zeppelin sheet music catalog, including the newly completed Led Zeppelin: Complete Lyric & Chord Song Book, Platinum Album Edition songbooks, and the Ultimate Play-Along series.
These books were selected within the “Gotta Have It” category, which recognizes “product[s] that retailers want to stock right now, if they haven’t already got it.” They were chosen by music retail expert Alan Friedman.
“Our CEO, Ron Manus, committed to Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, and John Paul Jones that Alfred Music Publishing would undertake re-transcribing and arranging the entire Zeppelin catalog, correcting all the mistakes of past publications, until all the books met with their complete satisfaction and fully respected their place in music history,” commented Aaron Stang, Alfred’s Led Zeppelin project manager.
Teams of arrangers and editors in Miami, Los Angeles, London and New York worked together on these projects, gathering advice and input directly from the band. The release of the Ultimate Play-Along series in particular was the first time that the band has approved sound-alike tracks to be released.
Led Zeppelin: Complete Lyric & Chord Songbook is an indispensable reference collection for any Led Zeppelin fan or guitarist. The songbook contains complete lyrics and chords to every song from Led Zeppelin’s nine studio albums, plus rarities and alternate versions. Songs include “Dazed and Confused,” “Immigrant Song,” “Kashmir,” “The Song Remains the Same,” “Stairway to Heaven,” Whole Lotta Love,” and many more. Chord grids are included at the beginning of each song, and TAB is provided for the key guitar riffs. In addition, the songbook features lay-flat binding for ease of use on a table or music stand.
The Led Zeppelin Platinum Album Edition songbooks were released for the first five of the band’s classic studio album recordings. These books draw from more than 30 years of documentation, interviews, and recorded footage to deliver unprecedented accuracy and insight into the guitar style of Jimmy Page, transcribed for guitar in both music notation and TAB. With vintage Zeppelin photographs and a historical foreword by Guitar World magazine’s editor-in-chief, Brad Tolinski, each album-matching volume is a true collectible every fan must own.
Ultimate Guitar-Play Along: Led Zeppelin songbooks are designed to allow guitarists to play along to sound-alike versions of Led Zeppelin classics in the comfort of their home, without needing a full band behind them! Featuring completely authentic transcriptions of many of their greatest hits, each of these classic songs are written in full TAB and music notation. Included with each book are CDs that contain two versions of every song: an instrumental sound-alike recording, and an instrumental accompaniment track (minus guitar) to play along to these legendary songs. All songs were recorded live with vintage amps and guitars to replicate the original sound as close as possible. In addition, the included TNT (Tone ’N’ Tempo) Changer, exclusively from Alfred, allows guitarists to easily loop sections for practice, slow tracks down or speed them up without changing the pitch, switch back and forth between full instrumental and accompaniment tracks, and even change the key.
