Steven J. Campbell, a native of New York, holds a B.M. in Music Education with a concentration on violin from the State University of New York at Fredonia. While there, he developed a love for free improvisation, composition, and performance.
In addition to being a published composer, Mr. Campbell has developed an extensive amount of performance experience over the years performing with the SUNY Fredonia Symphony, The Dover Symphony, The College of St. Rose Chamber Orchestra, as well as numerous local and regional ensembles, trios, quartets, and bands. Mr. Campbell has also had the privilege of performing solo violin in a vast number of unusual locations including historic churches, sprawling golf courses, sandy beaches, fragrant gardens, extravagant yachts, and even in the basket of a hot air balloon hundreds of feet in the air! His versatility and willingness to perform in somewhat atypical locations has earned him a positive reputation among his colleagues and clients.
Mr. Campbell has taught music in the state of New York, as well as the Saint Elizabeth region of Jamaica before relocating to Chesapeake, VA where in 2008 he became the Director of Orchestras at Oscar Smith Middle School. In 2013, he became the Hickory High School Orchestra Director. Mr. Campbell remains motivated and very excited about helping his students become the best quality musicians they can be. In his “free time” Mr. Campbell is usually working on new compositions and spending time with his beautiful wife, Oksana.
