Sherri Porterfield is currently the Director of Choirs at Cedar Park Middle School in Cedar Park, Texas. Having also taught in Missouri and Kansas, her choirs have won numerous first place and sweepstakes awards in competitions and have appeared at several state music educators conventions. In addition, she has served as an adjunct assistant professor of music education at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music.
Sherri has pursued an active composition career and has had over 175 choral compositions published. Her music is represented in the catalog of Alfred Music Publishing and many other prominent publishers. Since 1997 she has been awarded yearly an ASCAP award for her writing by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers.
Born in 1958 and a native of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Sherri earned the B.S.E. in music education from the University of Memphis and the Master of Music in choral conducting from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She has had the opportunity to work with hundreds of students and teachers throughout the United States as a clinician and as a guest conductor of elementary, middle level and high school honor choirs.
Sherri has been selected four times to Who's Who Among America's Teachers, and has also been selected to Who's Who Among American Women, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the World. In 1999 she was selected Teacher of the Year at Frontier Trail Junior High in Olathe, Kansas. She is a member of Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Choral Directors Association, Music Educators National Conference, American Choral Directors Association, Pi Kappa Lambda national music honor society and ASCAP, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers.
