Nancy Bricard is a San Franciscan with French overtones; an American
soloist who has achieved prominence at home and abroad. For six years she
resided in France where her studies with Marcel Ciampi, professor at the
National Conservatory in Paris, greatly enhanced her unique understanding
of French music for the piano. Her previous training in piano was with
Lillian Steuber and John Crown at the University of Southern California
where she received her bachelor's and master's degrees in music.
Ms. Bricard's artistry in performances as a recitalist and soloist with
major symphony orchestras and chamber ensembles have won her notable recognition
in Europe and North America. She has also recorded and performed for radio
and television.
Professor Bricard has taught in international symposia, chamber music
workshops and master classes. She is a frequent lecturer and essayist on
the French keyboard repertoire, the French School of piano technique and
the psychological problems of performing musicians. Research and teaching
interests in these psychological issues relating to performance have led
to the publication of important professional papers and articles on this
subject. In 1990, Alfred Publishing Company released her edition of
Gaspard
de la Nuit, the highly acclaimed and first ever to be published critical
edition of Ravels twentieth century masterpiece. This was followed by
performance editions of Ravels
Miroirs (1993) and
Le Tombeau
de Couperin (1996).
Nancy Bricard is Professor Emeritus and former Chair of the Keyboard
Studies Department at the University of Southern California School of Music.
