Loreta Fin currently holds the position of Director of Strings and Instrumental Music at Somerville House Girls’ School, Brisbane, Australia. The string program has over 200 students and is known for the excellent standard of its string ensembles. All ensembles have been successful in state competitions over the years and the senior group, Somerville Strings was a recipient of the Orchestras of Australia’s award for Best School Orchestra.
Loreta has served as both State and National President of AUSTA and is an examiner with the Australian Music Examinations Board, as well as a lecturer in String Pedagogy at the University of Queensland. She was the Consulting Editor of the most recent Violin Syllabus for the Australian Music Examinations Board, from Preliminary to Grade 4. Loreta has also been on the Education Advisory Committee for the Queensland Symphony Orchestra for almost 10 years.
Loreta studied at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and has since performed regularly in many chamber music and orchestral concerts. She has performed as a freelance player in musicals at the Qld Performing Arts Centre and is the Principal Violist of the Qld Pops Orchestra.
An experienced educator and adjudicator, Loreta has presented at conferences all over Australia and was invited to present at the 2009 ASTA Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. She has adjudicated all major eisteddfods and competitions in South East Queensland, as well as festivals in Sydney, Perth and Melbourne. Loreta has written numerous publications for young strings orchestras, which have been published in Australia and overseas. Many of these compositions have been selected as set works for Australian Academy Festival of Music, which is the largest school competition in the Southern Hemisphere.
