Kenny Aronoff is one of the most influential and in-demand drummers in rock music. He has worked with many of the world's top artists, including The Smashing Pumpkins, John Mellencamp, Alanis Morrisette, Bob Seger, Melissa Etheridge, The Rolling Stones, Jon Bon Jovi, Elton John, Bob Dylan, Rod Stewart, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Bonnie Raitt, John Fogerty, Joe Cocker, Mick Jagger, Avril Lavigne, Alice Cooper, Jewel, Meat Loaf, Michelle Branch, Hilary Duff, and many others. With a style of playing that combines power and finesse, he was named the No. 1 Pop/Rock Drummer and the No. 1 Studio Drummer for five consecutive years by the readers of Modern Drummer magazine and in addition has played on over 30 Grammy-nominated recordings.
Raised in Massachusetts, Kenny played in various local rock bands thoughout his teenage years. He attended Indiana University's prestigious School of Music, focusing on classical music. After graduating in 1976, he was offered timpani positions in several orchestras, but decided to head to the east coast to study drumset. He then headed back to Indiana to join a popular jazz-fusion band, playing clubs throughout the midwest. In 1980 he joined John Mellencamp's band, recording 10 albums and touring with him over the next 17 years. Kenny's innovative style and solid backbeat became the driving force behind Mellencamp's long run of definitive hit records. In the mid-1980s, he began to develop an enormously successful career as a studio musician and has since become one of the world's top session drummers, playing on hundreds of records with renowned artists. He has also backed many artists on tours worldwide and in TV appearances, videos, and countless other live events. He is also a sought-after drum clinician and has been an Associate Professor of Music at Indiana University.
