John Nieto is the mariachi director at Brackenridge High School and lead instructor for the San Antonio ISD All District Mariachi in San Antonio, Texas. He serves as an instructor / arranger / transcriber / copyist at the Albuquerque Mariachi conference as well as instructing at the Tucson conference. He performs professionally with groups from the San Antonio area as well as sharing the stage with some of the top mariachis in the world including Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan, Mariachi de America de Jesus Rodriguez de Hijar, Mariachi Sol De Mexico de Jose Hernandez and Mariachi Los Camperos de Nati Cano. His high school mariachi groups have received 2nd or 3rd place in the University level at the Ford, Lincoln-Mercury Mariachi Extravaganza and at the Albuquerque Mariachi Spectacular. His students have also served as Goodwill ambassadors for the city of San Antonio throughout the world. His mariachi studies started at Our Lady of Guadalupe church when he was taken against his will to rehearsals. Twenty-nine years later, he still hates to admit that Gilbert S. Nieto and Henrietta LaGrange (his parents) were right.
