The editor, John Glenn Paton, studied lieder and opera on a Fulbright Fellowship in Stuttgart, Germany. Along with the eminent composer-accompanist Hermann Reutter, Paton recorded for German radio studios and toured in the U.S. giving lieder recitals sponsored by the Goethe Institute and the International Hugo Wolf Society. His university teaching experience of over 30 years includes the University of Wisconsin at Madison, the University of Colorado at Boulder, and the University of Southern California, teaching voice, diction, song interpretation, and vocal pedagogy. In addition to his influential edition of 26 Italian Songs and Arias he has edited lieder by Mozart, Fanny Hensel and Mendelssohn.
