For over 30 years, Joan Eckroth-Riley has been sharing her passion for music and education with students ranging in age from kindergarten through college. Joan currently shares the joy of making music with students in kindergarten through fifth grade at Sunrise Elementary in the Bismarck Public Schools. She also serves as adjunct professor at Bismarck State College in Bismarck, ND, teaching Elementary Music Methods classes. In addition to her teaching duties, Joan is a frequent workshop presenter on standards and assessments for elementary music, as well as recorder and movement for Orff Schulwerk teachers. She is a contributor of standards and objectives for many publications and maintains a clarinet studio in her home.
Joan holds an MA in Music Education with an emphasis in Orff Schulwerk from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN, where she received her Orff levels and curriculum training, as well as training in Kodaly and Dalcroze. She is a Past-President of the North Dakota Music Educator’s Association and Prairie Winds Orff. Joan is a recipient of the Golden Apple Award for teachers in the western half of North Dakota.
