For over 35 years Janet Farrar-Royce has been a professional classical violist, fiddler and string teacher. She has coordinated, adjudicated and conducted several youth symphonies, festival orchestras, and was the founder of Wallingford Festival Strings, Wallingford Summer Arts Camp, and the Cheshire Community Music School. She also helped create the Meriden Symphony Scholarship Fund and CT-ASTA’s String Fling Camp.
Jan keeps a busy schedule of giving workshops and teaching graduate college courses all over the country.
Jan was one of MENC’s first On-line Orchestra MENTORS and has two articles in their current Spotlight on Teaching Orchestras.
The 2011 Middle School Music Teacher of the Year for her state’s MEA chapter, Jan has served as the President of the Connecticut Chapter of the American String Teachers Association and on their national board for Alternative Styles. She is also featured in their DVD Teaching Alternative Styles in the Classroom.
Jan was chosen to be one of Yamaha’s first Certified String Educators, is the Music Education Lecturer for Yale University’s Teacher Training Program, and has books and string ensemble arrangements on the market with major publishers.
